Roping a Grizzly

These cards and prints are made off of a fresco painting that I did this summer while studying in Florence, Italy. Frescoes are paintings that are done rapidly in a watercolor-like style on wet plaster on a wall or ceiling, so that the colors penetrate the plaster and become fixed as it dries. I painted it off of a painting by Charlie Russell, “Roping a Grizzly.” Russell was an artist of the Old American West and created more than 2,000 paintings of cowboys, Indians, and landscapes.
