Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela

The Heart of Christianity is composed of pilgrimage and arrival. They crescendo into one another with great constancy, and often lead back into the other. Our hearts were created with a longing after the Heart of Christ, and it is our deepest desire to arrive there. Intimacy is arriving into the person of Christ, into His Church, His Heart, His desires. The arrival always also carries the journey of the arduous steps we take to get there.

Places exude certain emotions when we see them or visit them. The Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela whispers “you have arrived.” The kind of whisper that rushes through your entire body and through your backpack. It causes the skin to tingle, because for weeks, all the arrows and boots and alburgues, and meals, and pilgrims have projected themselves towards this place. The whisper is so powerful when we arrive, because it also implies an incredible journey and the riveting completion of it. A longing to arrive lives in us. Its presence allows us to cherish the pilgrimage.

If the burdens you carry are too straining, stop immediately to reevaluate what is important to carry. The world will you offer you many things, they may not be necessary to carry for each chapter of life. Life is simple. You just need to follow the arrows to arrive at where you are going. We are going to the Heart of Christ, He will always lead you there swiftly and easily if you follow His Way. Blisters happen from rubbing. If you start to feel them forming, stop immediately and care for them. If our hearts become blistered, the journey is very painful. Stop and remain with the Lord, allow him to alleviate the burdens and allow healing to begin. We don't need to carry anything but what is essential for today. Empty everything else behind. We need only Christ.

It is a wild adventure to pursue the heart of Christ. Buen Camino!
