Traditionally, on Epiphany, the head of the household would write these numbers, crosses, and letters on the door frame of the house in chalk. I went to a Catholic school K-3 and the first day back was always so memorable. Our priest would come into each of our classrooms and inscribe the Epiphany blessing on our doorway. By March or April it would get smeared somehow, so I thought- how cool would it be to have a transfer sticker instead?
The numbers represent the year and the letters C + M + B represent the legendary names of the Magi who came to see the Christ child. The letters are thought to either come from their names Caspar, Melchior, and Balthasar, or to originate from the Latin phrase, “Christus Mansem Benedicat.” (May Christ bless this home)
The tradition expresses the belief that the Lord remains with His people all throughout the year. Placing the blessing above the door is a reminder that every time we come in and out of our homes we are walking into God’s blessing and provision for our families. The stickers come with a prayer card to help you bless your home.
Choose between white and black text depending on what you prefer! The white mimics the traditional chalk and is more discreet and the black pops!
You can put it above the door, on the door frame, or on the door itself. What a beautiful tradition to start up again with our families. It is a great stocking stuffer that will bless the home of who you gift it to so so much!
The letters measure 14” long and 2.5” tall and they rock! They are a thick, sturdy, vinyl. May you truly be astounded by Christ’s closeness to you today and May Christ bless your home!
